Drum Circle 101: Top 8 Tips for a Truly Groovy Experience

Tempo Temple Events exists for the purpose of crafting truly amazing drum circles, and we're excited to have you join us at one of our rhythmic experiences! To help you make the most out of your time with us, we've put together a list of top tips and tricks that will ensure your time is used to full potential. Whether you're a seasoned percussionist or a first-time drummer, these insights will enhance your participation, and have you wanting to come back for more:

The rhythm is gonna get you tonight No way, you can fight it every day But no matter what you say You know it the rhythm is gonna get'cha - Gloria Estefan

1. Bring an Open Mind & Positivity

Approach the drum circle with an open heart and mind. Embrace the positivity of the Tempo Temple community and the connections that come with the rhythm.

2. Come As You Are & Be Ready For Good Vibes

Don't worry at all if you're new to drumming or music in general; our drum circles are welcoming to all people, ages, and skill levels. We're here to guide you, so just relax and let the rhythm flow naturally.

3. Bring Your Drum or BYOB ("Bring Your Own Bucket")

If you have a drum or percussion instrument, feel free to bring it, and don't worry if you don't; we'll have a variety of instruments available for you to use. If you want a drum to practice with at home, just bring any household item with an opening that can be taped up to find new life as a drum instrument. Flower planters, buckets, or even Pringles cans work great! We'll provide the packing tape and drum sticks for you to create your own beat machine!

4. Respect the Circle & Its Collective Power To Heal

Treat the drum circle as a sacred oasis where everyone's contributions are valued and respected, and where people from all over the world are working through their own insecurities, pain, or other problems that drumming can remedy.

5. Feel the Groove & Find New Rhythms

Drumming is a physical and emotional experience. Let yourself feel the groove and get lost in the music. If you lose the beat at any point, just stop and listen to others around you - you'll find the tempo in no time. Once you're back in, explore your creativity and experiment with new rhythms.

6. Stay Hydrated & Be Comfortable

Drum circles can be a real workout, with real sweat and real sore muscles, so remember to bring a small towel and stay hydrated throughout the session with water. Dress comfortably, leave the jewelry and rings at home, and consider bringing your favorite cushion for added comfort.

7. Listen & Respond

Pay close attention to the rhythms that are created and that evolve around you. Feel free to respond and add your unique beats, but also be aware of when to listen, blend in by keeping a simple and steady beat, and even bring down the energy level so you can hear more quiet instruments like flutes, singing bowls, or hand pans.

8. Connect with Others & Stay Curious

Tempo Temple drum circles are about more than just the music; they're about community, healing, and the joy of rhythm! Use this as an opportunity to connect with fellow beat seekers, share a word of encouragement, or talk about what you're looking for in the drum circle.

We can't wait to share the rhythm with you and create some healing noise. If you have any questions or need more info before the next event, feel free to reach out using the chat feature on our website (www.tempotemple.com). Get ready to groove and embrace the beat!

See you in the circle!
